The National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality asked the new chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Education and Labor Committee, Congressman George Miller, to make a statement to our participants as part of our webcast. We thank Mr. Miller for taking the time to share his thoughts with the audience.

Congressman George Miller (D-California) is the chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, a post he was elected to in January. Miller was one of the four congressional authors of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. He lists among his top education priorities the effort to continue to improve teacher quality in public schools and additional funding for NCLB. Miller also serves as chairman of the House Democratic Policy Committee and is a member of the House Natural Resources Committee.
