Many people have done it. They place the litter tray on the toilet. After the cat grows accustomed to going there, they simply remove the tray.
I think it’s kind of unsanitary, wouldn’t want to do it myself. Maybe there is somewhere else you can keep the litter box, or maybe you could try the cedar fresh litter.
Good luck!

this was on a ‘new inventors’ show is Aust – it is fantastic and proven… check out this website, http://www.litterkwitter.com.au
i’m sure you’d be able to find it in the US as well or order it online – it is really good not a moneymaking scam
heres’ what you do:
Litter Kwitter is a toilet training device that eradicates the need for a litter tray by training a cat to use the household toilet. The cat toilet seat is a plastic rim that sits neatly over the porcelain rim of the toilet. There are three different disks that sit inside the rim and gradually introduce the cat to the water below while weening it off the kitty litter.
1) Using the Red disk, the cat uses the Kitty Litter-Kwitter device on the floor next to the toilet like a normal litter tray to get used to the look and feel of it. The litter sits in a recess in the aperture of the seat.
2) Using the Red disk, the device is placed on the toilet to train the cat to jump up onto the seat to go to the toilet. A step up to the toilet may need to be provided to help the cat jump but which may be able to be removed eventually.
3) Using the Amber then the Green disk, introduces a hole in the litter tray and orientates the cats paws towards the white rim.
The Amber disk introduces a small hole and the presence of the water below. The kitty litter is reduced gradually. The presence of litter reassures the cat but removes its need to tread on it. At this stage the cat may need some guidance to put his front paws on the white rim.
Green disk, this disk has a larger hole again and less kitty litter. By this stage the cat should be perfecting its balance on the outer rim of the toilet. The kitty litter is reduced until none is needed at all. The cat should naturally spread its back legs to balance on the white rim because the green rim is a more unnatural position as it is recessed and there is not a lot of room for it’s paws.
When all four paws are on the white rim the cat will probably be defecating in the green ring a little. This is a sign that the cat is using the outer rim properly and it is time to remove the green disk.
When the cat is fully toilet trained it will regard the toilet as its natural place to go. It usually takes a cat a maximum of 8 weeks to be trained to use the device.
The device is made of plastic and fits all standard size toilets. When the training disks are no longer required, the white plastic rim of the litter kwitter sits flat on the porcelain rim allowing the normal toilet seat to be lowered over the top for humans to use.
